250
words... Does that include numbers? Oh look, I already typed 10 words... 11...
not counting numbers! I hope this will suffice. I am unfortunately
horrible with grammar, and I break rules I barely understand constantly but
perhaps this is not a blog for people who shy from disorder. If you honestly
cannot stand it, pray, look away! You need not suffer for my sake.
Today in
class, I was considering the options idea—charis vs. hamartia—and I was
thinking how interesting the different views of different faiths are when they
are explaining simple concepts. I love creation stories in general, like those
of Native Americans, because their stories are beautifully detailed and rich
woven narratives that stick in one’s mind for ages after they are told. I still
remember one Native American story about the creation of the Earth from the
water, with a giant turtle carrying the Earth on its back up from the depths of
the water. It was so lovely and I heard it for the first time by an Iroquois
storyteller in elementary school who came to visit my classroom and tell us
stories. If you have never heard a story told by a Native American storyteller,
you are missing out. They use drums and flutes and tambourines and rattles and…
well, it’s kind of amazing. I remember being small and wishing I were more
Native American so I could be a genuine storyteller like our visitor (I do have
some Cherokee and some Oswego but not much). I suppose I never lost that desire—to
become a storyteller, that is. That’s why I’m a Literature major, I suppose. ;)
Until tomorrow!
